Heparin Sodium Dosing for Dogs, Cats, Horses, Cattle, Pigs By Weight

Important Information

For heparinized saline solutions for IV use: recommended mixture ranges from 0.25 to 10 units per mL of fluids.

This is equivalent to adding 0.25 mL of heparin (1,000 units/mL concentration) per 1000 mL of fluids, or 1 mL heparin (10,000 units/mL concentration) per 1000 mL of fluids, respectively.

Note: The advantage of adding heparin to fluid solutions for flushing IV catheters has not been demonstrated in clinical studies.
